The Canadian Province (formerly Ontario-Kentucky) is the founding province of the Congregation in North America, and its beginnings date back to August 14, 1857, when, responding to the invitation of the local bishop, Fr. Eugene Funcken CR arrived from Europe to serve at St. Agatha Parish in the town of St. Agatha in the Canadian province of Ontario. Soon he was joined by his biological brother, Fr. Louis Funcken CR. In 1864, both of them founded St. Jerome's College in St. Agatha, which later became one of the founding institutions of the University of Waterloo.
Today, 26 religious members form the Canadian Province and carry out their ministry in a wide range of apostolates. We serve in both English and Polish parishes located across Canada. Some of our religious work in education at the high school, university, and adult education levels. Thanks to special skills and talents, our religious also take on unique challenges, through involvement in social justice issues, chaplaincy, counseling and addiction treatment, canon law consultation, administration of the Congregation at the national and international levels, vocation promotion, and preaching as part of outreach programs for those harmed by unjust social structures. Many of our older religious specialize in the apostolate of prayer.
Bogdan Jański, our Founder, believed that we should be open to responding to any needs in the Church. His vision motivates us to welcome candidates with a wide range of talents and to respond to a broad spectrum of apostolic opportunities. By prudently using all of our gifts and abilities, we strive to be a sign of hope to others and to work for the resurrection of society.
