Superior General


The Superior General is always elected by the General Chapter for a term of six years and may be re-elected only once. He is the father of the entire Congregation; he holds personal authority as well as ecclesiastical jurisdiction and governs the Congregation according to the regulations and spirit of the Constitutions. He serves the whole Congregation through formal visitations and frequent contacts, strengthens unity and fruitful community life, and watches over the fidelity to the Congregation’s charism. In addition to many duties arising from universal Church law and the Congregation itself, the Superior General is responsible for ensuring that the entire Congregation remains faithful to the Gospel and the Constitutions.

Fr. Evandro Miranda Rosa CR

Fr. Evandro Miranda Rosa CR is the 34th Superior General of the Congregation of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He was elected on June 28, 2023,
during the 34th General Chapter of the Resurrectionists, held at their motherhouse in Rome. Father Evandro is the first Brazilian and also the first representative of the South American Region to hold this office in the 187-year history of the Congregation.

He was born on July 21, 1975, in Mairiporã, São Paulo (SP), Brazil. His home parish is the Immaculate Conception Parish in Franco da Rocha, a suburb of São Paulo in the Diocese of Bragança Paulista (SP). It was in this parish that he received all the sacraments of Christian initiation and celebrated his first Mass.
There he became acquainted with the Congregation of the Resurrection, which serves in that parish.

He entered the Resurrectionists’ novitiate in Curitiba, Paraná (PR), Brazil, in 1995 and made his first religious vows on February 2, 1996. There, as a seminarian, he studied philosophy
at the OSBM Studium. In December 1997, he was sent to the Collegium Resurrectionis in Rome and began theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, which he completed with a licentiate in theology. On February 2, 2000, at the Church of the Resurrection at the General House in Rome, he professed perpetual vows in the Congregation of the Resurrection
and on April 28 of that year, he was ordained a deacon.

He received priestly ordination at the Church of Christ the Resurrected in Franco da Rocha (SP) on September 8, 2001, from Bishop Hamilton of Bermuda, His Excellency Robert J. Kurtz CR. As a priest, Father Evandro continued his academic path, pursuing theological studies in Rome and obtaining a Doctorate in Biblical Theology.

During 22 years of his priesthood, he served as formator of new candidates for the priesthood and held administrative positions in the Congregation of the Resurrection.
In 2011, he was elected for the first time as a member of the General Council of the Congregation of the Resurrection. During his six-year term, he served as the Procurator General and was also the superior of the Roman House. In 2017, during the 33rd General Chapter of the Resurrectionists, he was elected Vicar General and also took on the role of General Economer.
The new Superior General of the Congregation of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ entrusted his ministry immediately after election to Our Lady of Grace of Mentorella, the patroness of the Resurrectionists.
