Acolyte Brother Łukasz Pecyna CR

DSC 0011

On February 18, at the conclusion of the Formation Days for superiors, pastors, and those holding other roles, the Father General introduced Brother Łukasz Pecyna CR to the ministry of acolyte, which is the next stage of preparation for priestly ordination. The ceremony took place in the seminary church of EMAUS.

The duties of an acolyte during the celebration of the liturgy include: carrying the cross in the entrance procession, assisting the priest and deacon during the celebration (by handing the book, water, incense, setting up the corporal, purificator, chalice, pall, and missal on the altar, distributing the Eucharist to the faithful if necessary, of which he is an extraordinary minister, purifying the vessels when there is no deacon). In special cases, an acolyte may expose the Blessed Sacrament for adoration without giving a blessing. When there is no priest or deacon, he may lead a vigil for the deceased and conduct the stations at the deceased's home and at the cemetery during a funeral.
