From September 23-29, the annual meeting of the Extended General Council is taking place in Waterloo (Ontario). It includes members of the general board and provincial superiors. The Council's task is to support the general superior in his mission to strengthen unity, care for the development of community life in individual provinces and regions, and oversee fidelity to the Congregation's charism. Important elements of the meetings are the mutual exchange of information and reports on the implementation of the General Chapter's resolutions. A regular item on the agenda is also matters related to the activity and development of the Tanzanian Mission of the Resurrectionists. The Council meetings provide an opportunity to visit fellow brothers and places associated with our history and work. The first destination was the campus of St. Jerome's University, where there is a monument to Father Ludwik Funcken, one of the first Resurrectionists in Canada and the founder of St. Jerome's College in 1864. This college gave rise to today's University of Waterloo. Meeting participants visited the site of the first building of this institution, as well as the first place of work of the Resurrectionists in Canada - the parish of St. Agatha. In the nearby Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows, they celebrated Mass. They also met with the pastors of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Kitchener and prayed for the deceased Resurrectionists buried in the nearby cemetery. On Sunday, they participated in Mass at St. Louis Parish in Waterloo, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. On Monday, they visited two parishes in Hamilton run by the Resurrectionists: St. Joseph's and St. Stanislaus Kostka's.
