The annual meeting of the Extended General Council is taking place in Curitiba. It is an advisory "body"; it consists of members of the general council and provincial superiors. The task of the Extended General Council is to support the general superior in his duties of strengthening the unity of the Congregation, caring for the development of community life in individual provinces and regions, and overseeing fidelity to the Congregation's charism. Important elements of the EGC meetings are the mutual exchange of information and reports on the implementation of the resolutions of the last General Chapter. Sessions also address issues related to the mission in Tanzania and the planning of provincial chapters.
