Semenenko Piotr

(June 29, 1814 – November 18, 1886)

An outstanding philosopher and theologian, participant in the November Uprising, and co-founder of the Resurrectionist Congregation. Served as its Superior General from 1842–1845 and again from 1873. He was the creator of the main principles of the congregation’s spirituality (the Resurrectionist school of spirituality), an exceptional retreat master and preacher. Highly regarded as a spiritual director, and together with Kajsiewicz, contributed to the foundation of several women’s congregations, including the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, the Resurrection Sisters, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, the Felician Sisters, and the Sisters of St. Joseph. Consultant to the Congregation (Vatican) and advisor to Popes; from 1865, the first rector of the Pontifical Polish College in Rome; author of numerous philosophical and theological works; he left behind a rich collection of correspondence and a personal journal.
