The Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy at Gdanski-Wrzeszcz is located in the Parish Church of the Resurrection. It was designated as such on April 1, 2001, by the Ordinary of Gdansk, Archbishop Tadeusz Gocłowski. The dedication ceremony of the shrine coincided with the consecration of the new parish church. The image of the merciful Jesus, located in a side chapel of the church, was consecrated in Gdansk by Pope St. John Paul II during his pilgrimage to Poland in 1999.
The particularity of this shrine -- in addition to the cult of the Divine Mercy -- is the the "Way of Light" devotion practiced there. Around the outside of the church there are sixteen stations evoking major events occuring between the Resurrection of Jesus and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
