The Superior General is elected by the General Chapter for a period of 6 years. As the father of the entire Congregation he exercises personal authority as well as ecclesiastical jurisdiction. He governs the Congregation according to its Constitutions and their spirit. Serving the whole Community by means of canonical visitations and frequent personal contact, he is the principal promoter of unity, fruitful common life and fidelity to the Gospel and to the charism of the Congregation.
Fr. Evandro Miranda Rosa, C.R.
was elected the 34th Superior General of the Congregation of the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This happened on June 28, 2023, during the 34th General Chapter of the Resurrectionists, held at the Resurrectionist Motherhouse in Rome. Father Evandro is the first Brazilian and also the first representative of the South American Region to hold the post in the Resurrection Congregation's 187-year history.
Father Evandro was born on July 21, 1975 in Mairiporã, São Paulo (SP), Brazil. His home parish is Immaculate Conception Parish in Franco da Rocha, a suburb of São Paulo in the Diocese of Bragança Paulista (SP). It was in this parish that he received all the sacraments of Christian initiation and celebrated his Primate Mass. It was also here that Father Evandro met with the Congregation of the Resurrection, which had the care of the parish.
Father Evandro entered the novitiate in Curitiba, Paraná (PR), Brazil, in 1995 and took his first vows on February 2, 1996. Also, in Curitiba (PR), as a seminarian, he studied philosophy at the Studium OSBM. In December 1997, he was sent to the Collegium Resurrectionis in Rome. He studied theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in theology.
On February 2, 2000, Father Evandro professed perpetual vows in the Congregation of the Resurrection and was ordained a deacon on April 28, 2000, at the Church of the Resurrection in the General House of Rome.
On September 8, 2001, Father Evandro was ordained a priest at the Church of the Risen Christ in Franco da Rocha (SP), by the imposition of the hands of the Bishop of Hamilton, Bermuda, H.E. Robert J. Kurtz, C.R.
As a priest, Father Evandro continued on his academic path, pursuing his theological studies in Rome and earning a doctorate.
During his 22 years of priesthood, Father Evandro was primarily involved in the formation of new priests and held administrative positions in the Congregation of the Resurrection. In 2011, he was first elected as a member of the General Council of the Congregation of the Resurrection. During his first six-year term, he served as Procurator General and local superior of the Resurrectionist Roman House. In 2017, at the 33rd General Chapter of the Resurrectionists, Fr. Evandro was elected Vicar General, also serving as Econom General.
On the day of his election as General, Father Evandro entrusted the ministry to Our Lady of Grace of Mentorella, patroness of the Congregation of the Resurrectionists.
