Father Bernard Hylla CR (Polish Province) was born on September 5, 1959 in Szamotuły, Poland, near the city of Poznań. He professed perpetual vows in the Congregation of the Resurrection on the 8th of December, 1984, and on May 10, 1986 was ordained a priest. His studies included theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and educational sciences at the Pontifical Salesian University, both in Rome. He served as assistant rector and rector of the minor seminary at Poznań as well as assistant rector of the international Collegium Resurrectionis in Rome. For nine years he was the rector of the Congregation's major seminary and theological institute Collegium Resurrectionis at Kraków. He also served as a provincial councilor and member of the International Formation Commission. From 2006 until 2011 he worked in Italy, at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces (Mentorella), St. James Parish in Guadagnolo, and St. Maurice Parish in Rome-Acilia. On June 14, 2011, the 32nd General Chapter entrusted to him the office of superior general as the 19th successor of Elder Brother Bogdan Jański.
The Superior General is elected by the General Chapter for a period of 6 years. As the father of the entire Congregation he exercises personal authority as well as ecclesiastical jurisdiction. He governs the Congregation according to its Constitutions and their spirit. Serving the whole Community by means of canonical visitations and frequent personal contact, he is the principal promoter of unity, fruitful common life and fidelity to the Gospel and to the charism of the Congregation.
