News from the 33rd General Chapter

On Saturday, June 17, the General Chapter members had the unique opportunity of visiting the Redemptoris Mater Chapel and the Pauline Chapel in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. Thanks to the rich content of the commentary given by Fr. Lucjan Bartkowiak, C.R., on the expressions of the paschal mystery in the vast mosaics, the visit became also a spiritual event. On Sunday Evening some delegates and Roman House members took part in the solemn celebration of Corpus Christi and the procession presided over by Pope Francis.

Since Monday the Chapter has continued its work primarily in committees: spirituality, community life and government, formation, apostolates and finances. This work has been carried out in one stage of formation of resolutions and discussion on them, and then a second stage of presentation of formal proposals to be adopted by the Chapter. The second stage of final approval of action resolutions and proposals to be given to the entire Congregation was just completed on Thursday afternoon. Numerous proposals for amendments to our Constitutions as well as to the General Directories on Chapters and on Temporal Goods have been adopted by the Chapter. On Friday the editorial committee began the work of assembling all of the Chapter's proposals in a final document.

The central moment of each day of the Chapter has been without doubt the celebration of the Eucharist, held in various languages, in which all delegates and staff of the Chapter have participated together. Morning and evening prayer has also been shared in groups of Polish, Italian and English languages.
